In the past eight years, the Bastrop County Bar Association has presented plays at the Bastrop Opera House. These plays were based on real trials or criminal acts that occurred in Bastrop County. Some of the plays include:
"The Shootout in Cedar Creek: The State of Texas vs. Orange W. Wicks"
"State of Texas v. Jeff Fitzpatrick"
"An 1883 Christmas in McDade: A lynching, a gunfight and a murder trial"
"A Trial That Never Was: The Shooting of Richard Armstrong Shirley"
These performances are held to assist in raising funds for the Bastrop County Bar Association Scholarship Fund. Each year the Association offers scholarships to senior high school students residing in Bastrop County. Due to the success of the Association's fundraising the scholarships have been increased from $1,000 to $2,000 to each student.
