In the past nine years, the Bastrop County Bar Association has presented plays at the Bastrop Opera House. The 2024 fundraiser will be hosted at the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Performing Arts Center located at 1401 Cedar Street, Bastrop. These plays were based on real trials or criminal acts that occurred in Bastrop County.
Some of the plays include:
"The Shootout in Cedar Creek: The State of Texas vs. Orange W. Wicks"
"State of Texas v. Jeff Fitzpatrick"
"An 1883 Christmas in McDade: A lynching, a gunfight and a murder trial"
"A Trial That Never Was: The Shooting of Richard Armstrong Shirley"
"The Last Duel in Bastrop"
These performances are held to assist in raising funds for the Bastrop County Bar Association Scholarship Fund. Each year the Association offers scholarships to senior high school students residing in Bastrop County. Due to the success of the Association's fundraising the scholarships have been increased from $1,000 to $2,000 to each student.
If you are interested in being a Table Sponsor for the Dinner Theatre that occurs on Friday or Saturday, please contact the Association or you can purchase a table at our "Store" below. There are also individual tickets available for purchase for the Dinner Theatre.
All of the funds raised during these performances go to scholarships for Bastrop County graduating students.
If you are unable to purchase online, you can complete the attached form and email it to our Scholarship Chair, David Bragg.
